Top 5 Crazy Bike Laws!

Here are some strange laws about cycling that you may have been breaking without even knowing.

#1: In a city in Washington called Bellingham, you are not allowed to bike with a slingshot in your pocket. This is an oddly specific law. It says nothing about just holding a slingshot, you just can’t have one in your pocket.

#2: In Connecticut, you are not allowed to go over 65 mph on a bicycle. First off, that’s seriously impressive if you can even go that fast on a pedal bike. You must have some extremely muscular legs. Secondly, why is this even a law? What happened in Connecticut when this was made into a law? I don’t know, but one day I’d love to find out.

#3: This one really struck me. In Peridot, Arizona, you are not allowed to gargle with mouthwash while cycling. This one really can’t be explained. I could try to speculate as to why this is, but I honestly do not know. I can not think of a reason. But nonetheless, it is a law.

#4: In Thailand, you may not cycle shirtless. I guess the tourists took the humid climate of Thailand as an invitation to cycle shirtless. Well the Thai authorities have had enough! If you get caught doing this, you will have to pay a hefty fine of approximately $5 american dollars.

#5: Okay… this one might even top #3. In Baldwin Park, California, it is a crime to ride a bike in a swimming pool. Now, I don’t know what would possess someone to do this, but I do know that this was at least tried once and it must not have ended well. I’m not sure what kind of person would think to themselves “You think I could bike across water?” then go to the local swimming pool to try it out.

I should probably stop before these laws get any more strange.

That concludes my list of bike laws that you may not have known existed.
