     Title: Charity Cycling

This month we are looking at Charity Cycling. There are all sorts of ways to raise donations for your favorite cause. Let cycling be one of them! Not only are you raising funds and public awareness, you are also staying healthy and getting in shape.

One event that has raised a lot of funds and awareness is the “MS Great 8”. Started in 2010, this ride included 8 states in 8 days. The ride went from Washington, D.C. to Rockland, MA and raised $116,000.00. Every dollar went directly to the MS Society. In three years from 2010 to 2013 this group has raised over $450,000.00.  They are running another ride this year. Check out their site to read all about it: http://msgreat8.org/.

Another rider that has the charity ride bug is Dean Greg Crawford. He has been riding across the country every summer since 2010 raising money for “Niemann-Pick Type C (NPC) disease”,  a rare Cholesterol disorder affecting children. He embarks on this epic journey every summer with a few other riders and numerous riders join along the way for partial rides ranging from minutes to hours to days. This ride has raised over 1 million dollars since 2010, and this year they are looking to match that number. Check out his blog:  http://blogs.nd.edu/gregcrawford/

Here’s another ride on the Canadian side of the border -- “CN Cycle For Cheo”. This ride is organized to raise funds and awareness for helping kids with cancer. This is a day ride with varying distances to accommodate riders of all levels. It is scheduled for May 1 , 2016 in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. http://cncycle.ca/en/

Whatever level of cyclist you are there are all sorts of these events from cross country endurance cycling, to multi day trips right down to just a few hours. So go out support your favorite charity in a fun healthy way and put some miles in the saddle. And of course a spiderflex saddle will make those miles the most comfortable to keep you out there longer..

Have a great ride!
